Michelin Restaurants Washington DC José Andrés contra Trump

Für Starkoch José Andrés ist mit zwei Michelin-Sternen für eines seiner Restaurants in Washington ein Lebenstraum in Erfüllung gegangen. «Ich hätte auch leben können, ohne sie zu besitzen, aber es hätte mir nicht gefallen, ohne sie zu sterben», sagte der 47-Jährige der Deutschen Presse-Agentur. Der französische Restaurantführer «Guide Michelin» hatte am Donnerstag erstmals eine Ausgabe speziell für die US-Hauptstadt herausgebracht - und darin die «Minibar» mit zwei der begehrten Sterne gelobt.

Andrés war früher Schüler von Spaniens berühmtem Sternekoch Ferrán Adrià, nun ist Andrés selbst einer der bekanntesten Köche in den USA. Hier führt er rund 20 Restaurants, sechs allein in Washington. Zu seinen Fans zählen unter anderem US-Präsident Barack Obama und dessen Frau Michelle. Andrés bekochte das Paar nicht nur mehrfach in seinen Restaurants, sondern auch direkt im Weißen Haus.

Mit einem Präsidentschaftskandidaten dagegen ist Andrés zerstritten: Donald Trump. In einem von dessen Hotels ließ Andrés eine Restauranteröffnung platzen, nachdem Trump im Wahlkampf gegen Einwanderer aus Mexiko gehetzt hatte. Trump hat ihn dafür verklagt. «Niemand zweifelt daran, dass das beste Essen jenes der Einwanderer ist», findet Andrés. «Die Einwanderer haben viel dafür getan, dass dieses Land besser wird.» dpa

MICHELIN Guide Washington 2017

In this first selection, three restaurants have been awarded two stars: Mini Bar, where under the eyes of his customers, chef Jose ANDRES offers particularly avant-garde and innovative cuisine in the form of a tasting menu featuring whimsical and fun dishes; Pineapple & Pearls, opened earlier this year by chef Aaron SILVERMAN, has perfectly flavoured dishes reflecting a wide range of influences; and The Inn at Little Washington: a few kilometres from Washington, the restaurant run by celebrity chef Patrick O'CONNELL offers classic and eclectic French cuisine in a stunning setting.

Michelin starred Restaurants: the restaurant Rose's Luxury, opened by chef Aaron SILVERMAN, and The Dabney, run by chef Jeremiah LANGHORNE, have been awarded one star in this first selection for the MICHELIN Guide Washington. Seven other restaurants have been awarded one star –the Blue Duck Tavern, Kinship, Plume, Tail Up Goat, the Italian restaurants Masseria and Fiola and finally the Japanese restaurant Sushi Taro.
